About this event

When you were admitted to practice law, you probably put on your best business attire, climbed the steps to the State Courts Building on Washington Street in downtown Phoenix and proudly took the oath of an attorney, signed the attorney role and proudly exited the building as the latest newly minted lawyer of our beloved Grand Canyon State. What you were not told and did not know is, that license you labored so hard to get was almost useless in 28% of the State in which you were admitted to practice. Of the 72.9 million acres of Arizona, over 20 million acres are Indian reservations. This presentation is an overview of the law applicable in the other 20 million acres of our state, to demystify the law applicable “East of Pima Road” and all over the state on the 20 recognized Indian reservations of the 22 recognized Indian tribes.

Ryan Lorenz is a Partner in the international firm of Clark Hill PLC. Ryan is a general litigator practicing in the firm’s Litigation Business Unit and is an adjunct member of the Healthcare and Bankruptcy/Restructuring Business Units. Ryan has dedicated almost twenty-five years to the study and practice of law before tribal courts. Ryan has been admitted to and practiced before seventeen tribal courts in Arizona, California, Nevada and New Mexico. In addition to maintaining a wide-ranging general civil and commercial litigation practice, Ryan dedicates a substantial segment of his practice to representation of businesses and individuals in navigating the idiosyncrasies of tribal substantive law and rules of procedure.
